See this TripWow and more at tripwow.tripadvisor.com Stingray city “what a mission it was to get to oracabessa, it took all day.. the bus back to ochi was pretty normal, driver going too quick and the whole bus overloaded, but the small drive on to oracabessa was worse, the driver really thought he was in a rally arcade game, we were on average 3 times above the speed limit the whole way, overtaking and leaving everything and anything in our dust, or wake of stones because the government is halfway through resurfacing the main road there… as we reached the town i was trying to remember the place to alight form my lonely planet map.. which didn’t quite work as the roadworks had place in a diversion around the point i’d invisioned.. so before i no it ancient rally driver in the cockpit has delivered me into port maria, i had to apologise to him that i wanted to get out in oracabessa but that he could drop me off at the towns bus park (which is normally quite central).. so i had to ordeal another high speed, high risk journey back and i finally arrived alive there. the driver was ready to pull away at his regular 15 g’s when i realised i’d left my mobile in the car, luckily the guy saw me and i was handed it back through the window.. pretty lucky as i havn’t backed up any numbers on it.. I found my way to ‘nix nax’ guesthouse, which was a deal at 1050 jm dollars a night, as i was worn …

Captain Marvin’s Watersports of Cayman Islands offers stingray city tours, snorkeling, scuba diving

Hi All! I just got back from Cayman. Kevin and I had a fantastic time! Off the coast of Cayman is an area called Stingray City. The history behind it is that fishermen would clean their fish here, Stingray’s learned this and got into the habit of coming to this area every time the Stingray’s saw a boat – like Pavlov’s dogs. Cayman started marketing this as a tourist destination. In the video…not sure if you can see it, but the Stingray are easily 4 to 5 feet wide and 2 to 3 feet long…not including their tail. They are North Atlantic Stingray…and are very sweet creatures. Each has a slightly different personality. Their bottom side is very soft…like a babies butt and their top side is like sand paper, some are softer than others. It is a small intimidating at first…they are very large creatures and when they swim at you it looks like they will knock you over, but their wings slide right over your body. Only once in a while when we were there did they accidentally push you and only because the mass part of their body hit you. As our boat approached this sandbar and anchored you could see all the Stingray’s swimming over to us. In the video there is probably easily 20 to 25 Stingray’s around us. The small Stingray are boys and the huge ones are girls. Kevin is taking the video and the Captain gave me some Octopus to feed the Stingray’s, but they get really excited when they are being fed and it freaked me out. This group of 3 islands lie in the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean about 480 miles south of Miami.
